What it's like to work at Summerhall

A former Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies, Summerhall is now one of Edinburgh's most distinctive arts venues. The building hosts theatre, visual arts, music, and cinema across multiple unusual spaces including the Dissection Room and the Old Lab. Summerhall has a strong year-round programme as well as Fringe, and tends to attract more experimental and boundary-pushing work.

It's a smaller seasonal team than Underbelly or Pleasance — closer to 80 hires across August — but Summerhall runs year-round, so paths from seasonal work to permanent roles do exist. The pace is calmer than the very busy bar venues but the programme runs late, with shows often finishing past 11pm. Pay sits at or just above the UK National Minimum Wage for entry-level roles.

Pay

Most Summerhall seasonal roles pay between £12.71 and £13.00 per hour.
